A Bad Idea

Whew! We have been in Barcelona for a couple of days now, and this is the first chance I have had to post something. Our hotel supposedly has internet access, but it was not working. So I found where the wireless router was and discreetly reset it by unplugging it. Now it works!

We have had some great food here. Paella last night, and great croissants for breakfast. Why can’t Americans make decent croissants? Even at the boutique bakeries in our area they are not even close. And we are not in France yet!

I have a ton of photos to sort through, and will be posting them on flickr as I can.

Which brings me to the photo above. Why, why, why did Europe keep the 1 and 2 euro coins when they switched currency? You would think that they could have learned from the British, who have had 1 and 2 pound coins for long enough to know better. You see, what would you rather carry around: A few bills that weigh next to nothing that you can keep tucked in a wallet, or a bunch of heavy coins that are inconvenient to carry and fall out of your pockets on the underground? I thought so! Really, this is not the middle ages. We have figured out how to make paper that is durable. Why are we still forced to carry around coins for whole units of currency? Coins are for the fractions.

Okay, that’s the end of my rant. Now it’s off to the waterfront and then tapas and wine.

Amusing. Do you think they care what Americans think? My son has resorted to the window ledge in his flat in London as he can’t get DSL for weeks–he is poaching WIFI from the hotel across the street.
