Earlier this week, one of my Twitter contacts was asking for recommendations for music to code by. This week I have finally been able to get some coding done (rather than writing documents and reading bug reports), so I paid some attention to the music I was choosing.

I tend to listen to a lot of different types of music. Some of my current picks that are in heavy rotation at work are (in no particular order): Andriod Lust (industrial), Tres Chicas (alt-country), Mazzy Star (shoegazer), The New Pornographers (indie rock), Cocteau Twins (hard to say, really), Sigur Ros (Icelandic, grand, beautiful music) and Deadbolt (surf guitar meets rockabilly voodoo).

Cocteau Twins is pretty much a given for me. It’s always loaded on my iPod and workstation. Deadbolt has earned a pretty permanent spot on my workstation as well; they were played a LOT during the more stressful parts of my last major coding project.

So there are some suggestions based on my current listening habits while coding. Does anybody else have favorite coding music? Sound off in the comments!
